Greg Luchiri

Gregory Luchiri is a self-taught artist who was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. From a young age, he showed a passion for art, and despite not having any formal training, he developed his skills through practice and experimentation.

His body of work is centered around African themes and concepts, and he is best known for his figurative paintings of black figures. His work reflects the richness and diversity of black life, and the black subjects in his paintings are depicted in scenes of solitude and camaraderie both inside the home and outside.

The stories being portrayed in his paintings are a reflection of his surrounding and his own personal life, offering a glimpse into the multiplicity of black life to the world. Gregory uses different figures in his work, intending to draw viewers into each character's unique personality and attitude through their gaze, mood, vibe, and poses.

One of the main themes that Gregory explores in his work is the tremendous growth of young black people in the continent of Africa. By using young black people in his work, he is symbolizing the tremendous growth that is happening in Africa and the potential of the young generation to shape the future of the continent.

What drives Gregory to make art is the belief that being creative is a divine power within, where one is able to bring the unseen to life. He regards his work as prophetic and spiritual, and he believes that art has the power to inspire and transform lives.

Today, Gregory Luchiri is a celebrated artist, and his work has been exhibited in various galleries and art shows across Kenya and beyond. His dedication to his craft and his commitment to showcasing the richness and diversity of black life make him a true trailblazer in the world of art.
