Mobolaji John

Ogunbajo Mobolaji John (b. 1995, Lagos) is a Nigerian visual artist whose figurative practice bridges classical techniques with contemporary expression. Based in Lagos, Mobolaji works primarily across acrylic, oil, watercolour, charcoal, and pencil, blending rich textures and warm palettes to explore the human form and emotion.

A graduate of Yaba College of Technology, Department of Fine Arts, Mobolaji refined his craft through apprenticeships at Chronicles Studio (under Mr. Abiola) and De Factori Studios (under Master Akintunde O. John). His work draws from figurativism, portraiture, and elements of impressionism, while integrating underpainting and chiaroscuro to create depth and atmosphere.

Mobolaji is known for his dynamic use of red and orange tones, which he employs to attract and hold the viewer’s attention. His brushwork reflects a fascination with light, shadow, and emotional resonance, capturing his subjects in moments of introspection or quiet strength.

He has exhibited both locally and internationally, including at the Modhafest Virtual Exhibition (USA, 2020), The Juneteenth Festival Exhibition (USA, 2021), and Art is Wealth Virtual Exhibition (Nigeria). As an emerging voice in the Nigerian art scene, Mobolaji John continues to explore new visual narratives while honouring the expressive power of traditional technique.
