ABOUT THE ARTIST

ZAN

José Zan Andrade (b. 1946, Angola) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Luanda, working across painting, drawing, and installation. With a background in architecture, his work reflects a deep sensitivity to structure, space, and the psychological weight of postcolonial experience.

Through fragmented figures, shadowed forms, and a restrained palette, Zan explores themes of memory, silence, and resistance. His compositions are subtle yet charged, inviting a slow, affective reading — where what is unsaid carries as much weight as what is shown.
