Ruan Jooste
Born in Nigel, a small mining town in South Africa, Ruan Jooste found his fullest expression in digital portraiture, working stroke by stroke on a Wacom tablet in a process as close to painting as it is to photography. His work weaves South African iconography, fashion, nostalgia, and magic realism into compositions that feel simultaneously inherited and invented. His subjects carry pride, tenderness, and a certain defiance, belonging not to a single moment but to a larger imagined tribe united by joy and resilience. Through colour, craft, and storytelling, Jooste invites his viewers to sit with beauty that is local in its references and universal in what it holds.
