According to Germaine Greer (1999), “every woman knows that, regardless of all her other achievements, she is a failure if she is not beautiful” (p.23). This sets the tone for this work, an investigation into conceptions of beauty, particularly in African philosophy and cultural thought. Therefore, in Africa, beauty is as unison (or harmony) of physical attractiveness (uyai akpọ iso) and good conducts (uyai edu).
