Finding Utopia is a celestial dream woven in Ankara - a tribute to Edward Makuka Nkoloso, the Zambian science teacher who, in 1964, imagined Africa reaching the moon. Though unsupported, his vision defied logic through imagination, daring to place Black bodies among the stars.
This series reimagines that vision through the lens of Afro-surrealism: Afronauts dressed in vibrant African prints drift through cosmic landscapes, embodying a future where freedom, pride, and identity are unbound by history. It’s a world where Africa leads - not just as origin, but as destination.
Blending tradition and futurism, Finding Utopia celebrates the richness of Africanness and the beauty of dreaming beyond limits. It invites us all to see ourselves - fully, freely - in a universe that welcomes our becoming.
