At last year’s Big Bottle Week in Luanda, two remarkable debuts stole the spotlight: the esteemed Portuguese wine brand Casa Ferreirinha and the dynamic Angolan platform Afrikanizm Art. The collaboration wasn’t just about pairing wine with art—it was about merging legacies, geographies, and visions.

Four exclusive bottles of Casa Ferreirinha wine were hand-painted by Davi Dombele and Josué Dombele, two celebrated visual artists and brothers represented by Afrikanizm. Known for their bold, expressive language and deep cultural research, the Dombele brothers accepted the challenge of transforming wine bottles into meaningful works of art.

Their intervention went beyond decoration: each bottle became a storytelling object, reflecting iconic elements and historical figures from both Angola and Portugal. The result was a fusion of two identities—etched in colour, form and symbolism—that paid homage to the intertwined histories of both nations.

The installation at Big Bottle Week featured these unique pieces alongside selected artworks and immersive design, creating a multisensory experience that brought together wine heritage and artistic expression. Guests were invited to engage with the pieces not just visually, but contextually—exploring themes of legacy, memory, and creative pride.

For Afrikanizm Art, this marked another powerful step in its mission to take contemporary African art into new, often unexpected, spaces. And for Casa Ferreirinha, it was a celebration of cultural collaboration and refined storytelling through art and wine.
