"Ghaida considers her body of work to be a personal reflection on the development of life among primitive organisms such as cells; plants, and animals before the humanity existed."

Ghaida Ashraf

Ghaida Ashraf (b. 1994, Alexandria, Egypt) is an Egyptian contemporary artist whose work explores the poetic and mythical evolution of life before humanity. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Alexandria University (2017), her early promise was recognized when her graduation project was hosted by L'Atelier D'Alexandrie in 2016. She also completed a year-long residency at MASS Alexandria, under the guidance of Wael Shawky, where she participated in their annual group exhibition and the 27th Youth Salon.

Ghaida’s visual language is rooted in abstract organic painting, drawing inspiration from primitive organisms such as cells, plants, and animals. Her layered compositions evolve from geometric stillness to dynamic, flowing forms—mirroring the continuum of life itself. Each stage of her process builds upon the last, embracing change, spontaneity, and the unseen threads that bind all forms of creation.

Unafraid to navigate timeless and placeless realms, Ghaida crafts her own mythologies—reimagining evolution through vibrant colour fields and non-linear narratives. Her practice is a meditation on transformation, fluidity, and the invisible connections that define our shared origins.

With participation in numerous group exhibitions in Egypt and abroad, Ghaida Ashraf stands as a rising voice among women in contemporary Middle Eastern art, offering a uniquely introspective and speculative vision of life’s beginnings.
