MEET
Salih Abdo
Salih Abdo is a Sudanese visual artist born in Khartoum in 1987 and raised in the eastern city of Jebel, where the beauty of his surroundings, and the early encouragement of his father, first drew him toward painting. He graduated from Sudan University of Science and Technology in 2009, specializing in painting, and has since built a practice rooted in the search for a pure Sudanese identity. Working within the realist tradition, Abdo is known for his exceptional command of watercolor as well as his unconventional use of coffee as a painting medium, a technique that has become part of his distinctive visual signature. His works document the textures of daily life, traditional dress, and the rhythm of Sudanese markets and streets, turning everyday scenes into vivid records of spirit and tradition. After years teaching art in Sudan and Saudi Arabia, he now devotes himself fully to his studio, and his paintings have entered collections across France, Italy, the United States, and Brazil, carrying contemporary Sudanese art onto the international stage.
