THIS NOT A WHITE CUBE is more than a gallery—it is a living platform where contemporary artistic practices engage with questions of memory, identity, and transformation. With spaces in Luanda and Lisbon, it builds a vital bridge between the African continent, its diasporas, and the global art world.
Founded in 2016 in Luanda by Sónia Ribeiro, the gallery quickly became a pioneering voice in Angola’s contemporary art scene. Its expansion to Lisbon in 2019 marked a new chapter—a meeting point between histories and geographies, and a dynamic gateway for art from the Global South to reach Europe and beyond.
Representing both emerging and established artists, THIS NOT A WHITE CUBE curates projects that challenge conventions and open new fields of meaning. Its research-driven and collaborative vision extends beyond the exhibition space, through curatorial exchanges, cross-disciplinary dialogues, and its non-profit initiative O CUBO, dedicated to experimentation and critical thought.
With a consistent presence in major international art fairs and cultural events, the gallery continues to shape an inclusive and forward-looking narrative of contemporary art—one where looking is also listening, and where art becomes a practice of connection, reflection, and transformation.
