Edilson Peregrino

Edilson Peregrino (b. 2002, Porto Amboim, Angola), known artistically as Peregrino, is a self-taught Angolan visual artist whose work bridges classical technique with contemporary expression. Now based in Luanda, his art explores the complexity and beauty of the human form through realistic graphite drawing and acrylic painting on canvas.

Peregrino’s passion for art began during his teenage years, but it was after completing his secondary studies in elementary school pedagogy that he fully embraced painting as a professional path. Between 2015 and 2022, he developed a meticulous technique using graphite pencils — capturing lifelike portraits and emotional realism. By late 2022, he transitioned into acrylics, expanding his visual language with colour, texture, and symbolism.

His main inspirations stem from everyday life, spiritual introspection, and the human being as a divine creation. He draws conceptual and aesthetic influence from Caravaggio, Picasso, and contemporary African artists, while maintaining a strong personal style rooted in introspection and cultural identity.

Peregrino's expressive and figurative works have already gained public recognition. In 2021, he was awarded the "I AM A BEAST" prize for visual arts at the TIGRA NOVA GARRA competition, and in 2023, he exhibited twice at the National Assembly of Angola, marking his arrival on the national contemporary art scene.

With a practice anchored in discipline, spirituality, and visual storytelling, Peregrino continues to evolve his artistic journey — seeking new forms of self-expression, engaging with African identity, and contributing to the future of emerging Angolan art.
