Francis Jeremiah

Francis Jeremiah is a Nigerian contemporary artist whose practice bridges the emotional and environmental. Working primarily on large canvases with cool and earth tones, he explores the relationship between man and nature, often portraying solitary figures set against serene, open backgrounds.

Born and raised in Kaduna, Francis draws inspiration from his early connection to nature. His signature motif — leaves used as hair — symbolises fruitfulness and productivity, transforming the human figure into a living extension of the earth. His use of floral patterns and butterflies evokes themes of beauty, renewal, and the impermanence of life.

A graduate of Auchi Polytechnic, where he earned his Higher National Diploma, Francis initially experimented with diverse styles before arriving at this refined symbolic language. His work combines figurative realism with soft abstraction, creating powerful reflections on identity, memory, and the urgency of ecological awareness.

Now based in Sagamu, Nigeria, Francis Jeremiah uses art as a form of environmental advocacy, urging viewers to reconnect with the natural world and reflect on the effects of urbanisation. Through his eco-conscious African art, he foregrounds the need to preserve green spaces and celebrates the quiet resilience of nature.
