Hage Mukwendje (b. 1990, northern Namibia) is a Namibian contemporary artist based in Windhoek, celebrated for his bold storytelling and mixed-media compositions. A graduate of the College of the Arts (COTA) in Windhoek, Mukwendje transforms lived experience into layered visual narratives that explore identity, memory, and perception.

Despite being colourblind, Mukwendje defies expectation through a vibrant and expressive visual language that blends painting, collage, and symbolism. His work bridges traditional Namibian aesthetics with global contemporary influences, shaped by international residencies such as Akademie Schloss Solitude in Germany (2021).

Each artwork functions as both a personal meditation and a broader commentary on cultural resilience and emotional complexity. Through experimental forms and textured surfaces, he creates deeply emotive pieces that challenge conventional visual storytelling and offer alternative ways of seeing.

Now regarded as one of Namibia’s leading visual artists, Mukwendje’s work is exhibited internationally, contributing to the growing visibility of African contemporary art on the global stage.
