Sara Altantawy

Sarah Tantawy (b. 1994) is a contemporary Egyptian painter whose deeply emotive work centres on the inner lives of women. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Helwan University, she explores themes of loss, loneliness, and emotional resilience through personal, figurative compositions. Her paintings reflect the subtle complexities of female identity and the impact of societal support—or its absence—on women’s mental and emotional well-being.

Sarah’s work is grounded in her own experiences, often portraying solitary female figures that serve as vessels for universal emotions. With a palette that oscillates between delicacy and intensity, she constructs visual narratives that resonate with authenticity and psychological depth.

Her artistic excellence has been recognised both nationally and internationally, with participation in major exhibitions such as the 8th Beijing International Art Biennale (2019) and the 2nd Dafen International Painting Biennale (2021), where she was awarded for her work. In Egypt, she has held multiple solo and group exhibitions, including the acclaimed “Silent Weeping” (2022) at Motion Art Gallery, as well as appearances in the Youth Salon (2017, 2018, 2020) and the 13th Luxor International Painting Symposium (2020). Her talent has been further acknowledged through a full-time artistic scholarship awarded by the Ministry of Culture (2019–2021).

With each canvas, Sarah Tantawy offers a quiet but powerful reflection on the female psyche, making her one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Egyptian painting. Her art does not seek easy answers—it invites the viewer to sit with emotion, question structures, and find empathy in vulnerability.
